Sunrise - Spennymoor

Sunrise Fish & Chips is a family run business based in Spennymoor, County Durham. Established by Mrs Yeung in 1977 it has remained in the family and is now owned and run by her nephew, Andrew Lee, and has become widely known as the 'Best Fish and Chip Shop in Town'.

At Sunrise you are always sure of a warm welcome and an even warmer meal, which will have you returning again and again. They use the finest of produce in all their meals, the chips are from the finest Lincolnshire Maris Piper potatoes and their fish is supplied fresh from Icelandic waters.

In January 2009 Andrew decided that if he wanted to take the shop into the 21st century then the time was right to organise a new shop fit and invest in a new range, he contacted Florigo and Robert Furey was on hand to offer the best advice, 'Andrew wanted a modern , up to date shop' said Robert Furey, 'and of course a modern, technologically advanced range to match - I explained about our new, revolutionary filtering system 'Filterlogic' (which actually filters the oil as you fry which ensures the product is cooking in the cleanest oil each and every chip) and Andrew was keen to have it installed on his new range!'

Andrew chose a bespoke, high efficiency 3 pan counter range with the brilliant Filterlogic integral filtration together with the new generation, computer controlled amber touch screens, integral scrap box and a hot box complimented with mirror glass doors - the front of the range and counter was finished in slate tiles to compliment and enhance the fantastic new décor in the premises.

The Carbon Trust also offered Andrew an interest free loan which enabled him to choose the best range available with the latest high efficiency technology - since the range was installed his gas bills have been reduced by a massive amount (and his business has increased!) and due to the new filtration he has also saved thousands on his oil useage!

In September 2009 the shop was ready for its grand opening which was ably performed by local presenter Craig Beck from 'Real Radio' (pictures can be viewed in our gallery)

Since the re opening Andrew has been amazed by the increase in business ' I can recommend a shop fit and new range to anyone' said Andrew, ' since we re opened our business has increased tremendously, everyone loves the new look of the shop and get comments every day on just how good our fish and chips are'

What about this for recent review in the Northern Echo..... "You have to go to the Sunrise," someone said. "The chips are fantastic." It is impossible to disagree. The Sunrise is just on the Bishop side of the town centre, eastern-orientated as its name suggests but with a wholly anglicised menu on which chop suey rolls and a sweet and sour dip alone offer a sort of Sino qua non. There are "new lines", too - corned beef pie, scampi and lasagne, fried rice, chips and sauce. The chips were hot, fresh and firm. The fish, and its batter, were simply terrific. As clearly has dawned on Spennymoor, you'd need to be up very early to find a better fish shop than the Sunrise'.

If you are local to Spennymoor, or just passing through, pop in and sample their famous fish and chips or one of their Sunrise Specials of, Mince and Dumplings, Lasagne, Fried Rice, Chop Suey Roll, Corned Beef Pie or Hot Beef Bun. They also have a wide variety of Children's meals - all of which come complete with a handy carry box, chips, drink and a toy. The little ones have a great choice of fish bites, chicken huggets, beef burger, chicken bites, cheese pattie, fish fingers, spam fritter or fish cakes. All are homemade daily using fresh local produce ensuring quality and freshness - see more on their excellent website www.sunrisefishbar.co.uk
